Why People Come Back to Starting Point

Sometimes the best feedback we get isn’t a five-star review or a lovely comment, it’s simply when someone chooses to come back.

This week, a lady came along to one of our digital support sessions at Cheadle Library. We’d met her before, when one of the team had spent some time helping her choose an iPad. This time, she wanted some advice about replacing her phone and a little more help getting to grips with her iPad.

She told us she’d already tried somewhere else for help, but hadn’t found the staff particularly patient with her. So she came back to Starting Point.

Jessica spent around an hour sitting with her, talking through the different features on her iPad, answering her questions and helping her feel more confident using it. They also chatted about her options for replacing her phone and what might work best for her.

There was no rush. No expectation that she should already know how things worked. Just time to ask questions and work things out together. And that’s really important to us. We know that asking for help with technology can sometimes feel daunting, particularly if you’ve previously been made to feel like you should know how to do something.

At Starting Point, there really is no such thing as a silly digital question. Sometimes people need help with something complicated. Sometimes they just need someone to sit beside them, listen and explain things at their pace.

For this learner, knowing there was somewhere she could come back to – where someone would have the patience to help – made all the difference. And we’ll be here when she needs us again. If you know someone who would benefit from our support, tell them to get in touch to get involved.
