Starting Point’s Learn Worlds site – created for Digital Champion volunteers.

The home of online training developed especially for our Digital Champions. Find useful courses and guides to upskill yourself, as well as our three mandatory courses for new volunteers.

A huge range of topics from using the NHS app, job searching on Indeed, avoiding scams, using Apple or Android devices, editing photos, or family online saftey!

You can sign in or create an account on our Learn Worlds site HERE.

Once you are logged in, look at the top toolbar. You’ll see ‘Digital Champions support’ on the list. Click here to see a drop down with:

  • Mandatory Digital Champion training. Our three essential courses that we ask all new volunteers to complete.
    • Introduction to Safeguarding for Digital Champions
    • GDPR for Digital Champions
    • Diversity Basics: Foundations
  • Online training courses
Other useful training for Digital Champions, to help you feel confident to help learners. From ‘Online safety for Families’ to ‘Online Learning styles’. You may need to press “load more” to be able to see all of the courses. What would you like to learn?
  • Resources has ‘Free Digital Skills Learner Guides’ as an option in the drop down. Click here to search or browse all our guides, updated weekly. If you can’t find what you are looking for, ask our Volunteering Lead.

Learn my way from Good Things Foundation – created for learners.

This is where you will find short beginners online courses for your learners. Everything from ‘how to use a mouse’ up to ‘Online banking’. Encouraging learners to use this site can help you manage a busy group or support beginners to practice new skills.

Learners will need to sign up to access the full range of courses. It’s free to join, sign up HERE

Things to be aware of when supporting learners to sign up:

  • As part of the sign up, they’ll be asked why they are registering with Learn My Way – tick ‘ I’m being supported by an online centre’, then search for ‘ Starting Point’. There is more than one Starting Point, so choose the one that just says ‘ Starting Point’ not ‘ Starting Point Digital’. You may need to enter our centre number 3421042 if our name does not come up.
  • Also…
  • They will be asked for an email address or mobile phone number. This will be used for 2-step verification when they sign up, so make sure that they have access to it ‘on the day’ as you help them. (ie they’ll need to be able to log into their emails or see their mobile in the session -it’s no good putting in your mobile number if your phone is at home!)

Download a copy of the De-VOL-opment tool HERE. Use this useful tool to help track your progress as a volunteer. We suggest completing this every 4-6 months. Let us know if you find this useful.

Complete our Volunteer Satisfaction survey using our link HERE. This is anonymous if you choose not to give us your details. We’d love to hear all about your experiences volunteering, if that was enjoyable, rewarding – or if we can make some improvements.

Moving on’ form. Decided to move onto something new or is life, work or study keeping you busy? We are sad to see you go, but thank you VERY much for all your help, we couldn’t do what we do without Digital Champions. Please fill in our ‘ Moving on’ form HERE to let us know how you found volunteering with us.
