During our digital drop-in funded by Stockport Homes at Cornerstone this week a learner turned up with a letter about Universal Credit migration.

His current benefits were being stopped, and he needed to apply for Universal Credit. He was visibly anxious that he wouldn’t be able to do this by the deadline, saying

“I don’t know anything about computers, I’ve only just got this (smartphone) and I’ve no idea how to use it.” 

Digital Champion Makayla was able to walk him through the process of creating an online account. She helped him work out the information he would need in order to complete his claim and will support him with this in the next session. Another example of how our wonderful digital champion are supporting local people with every day issues.

Our digital champion volunteer hub is funded by The National Lottery Community Fund and recruits and trains digital champions to support in their communities throughout Stockport. #DigiKnow is a Stockport wide network of organisations focused on getting people online facilitated by Stockport Council.
