Why we think lovely lunchboxes are really important

It’s school holiday time which means kids club. The idea around HAF (holiday, activity and food programme) it to offer time in each holiday for young people to enjoy new activities, nutritious food and enriching activities. So we go rock climbing, skate boarding and on litter picks (normally in the rain) and enjoy a wide range of food for lunch BUT what do we mean by enriching activities?

An enriching activity is something that boosts your wellbeing a fun and educational way.

For your mind, you might enjoy reading, learning a new skills, solving puzzles or playing strategy games like chess or Lego.

Emotionally enriching activities could include yoga (use we have tried it), engaging in creative arts like spray painting or volunteering maybe on a litter picking.

Physical enrichment comes from exercising, dancing, rock climbing, or gardening.

Socially, you could join clubs or groups and meet new people.

Which brings us to the picture of lunch boxes. Each young person took a compartmental lunchbox home today. Now we used to use ice cream tubs so why go to so much effort? Is it really a good use of money?

YES!

Our young people love the boxes with knives and forks and little pots. Today we had tons of conversation about what we could put in them from yoghurt to pasta salad to haribos! It is hoped that this excitement will go home with them and they can continue to explore local parks with a packed lunch in their own time with family and friends.

These are the special little moments that we think are enriching!

Our HAF provision is funded in May by Stockport Council and the DWP household support fund.
