A picture says a thousand words

Last week, we celebrated the life of Alan Turing whilst raising money for a George House Trust. As we celebrated Get Online Week, it felt important to honour the man who did so much to celebrate computer science. But our picture, proudly at the door when you enter, isn’t just there to celebrate one man’s mathematical genius.

For us, it is also a statement of intent. At well as his face and 01010101 binary code, there also features a pink triangle. The image of persecution during Nazi Germany resulting in terror for the LGBTQ + community. Our picture stands here to remember the pain of such persecution – abroad and close to home – decades ago and today.

Start Point is a place of safety and that is why we proudly display this amazing piece of art. We welcome everyone; and our staff and volunteers are encourage to stand against prejudice through training and by supporting each other.
