Reconnecting and moving forward thanks to friendly faces and the databank

This week, someone we supported last year popped in to our new building for a quick chat as he needed some support with mobile data. He had previously received a Good Things Foundation databank SIM card from us, but unfortunately lost his phone. Recently, he managed to buy a low-cost replacement phone from Cash Converters. Although it isn’t the most advanced device, it gives him what he needs to stay connected.

Over the past few months, he hasn’t been able to attend sessions as regularly as before. He had been caring for his dad, who had been unwell for some time. Sadly, his dad passed away over the Christmas and New Year period, which has been a very difficult time for him.

During our conversation, he told us:

“I need a way of contacting people to try and get my life back on track. At the moment, I can’t get in touch with the job centre and apply for jobs.”

We helped him get his mobile data set up again so he could reconnect with Universal Credit, start job searching, and reach out to support services. He also shared that he is interested in joining our Tuesday themed sessions focused on work and skills, and it was great to see him attend the Friday class again this week.

This small step, getting back online, has helped him feel more confident about moving forward. We’re looking forward to supporting him as he rebuilds his routine, develops his skills, and works towards employment.

The opportunity to have a high street presence that allows people to drop in and chat to someone familiar is really enabling us to reach more people and provide an even more accessible service, and we are really excited to see how it evolves.
