Since the summer of 2025, our Your Starting Point to Employment course has worked to break down digital and employment barriers for people seeking work. This year alone, we supported 32 learners with practical skills, digital confidence, and tailored employment support—helping many take meaningful steps toward sustainable employment. This work was initially funded by WEA and GMCA but we have worked hard to secure more long term funding from CDL which will allow us to grow this work into regular support throughout the 2026.
Building Essential Digital & Employment Skills
Throughout the course, learners gained vital skills needed in today’s digital job market, including:
- CV creation and editing
- Using AI tools to support job applications
- Online job searching and digital application techniques
Alongside group sessions, we also delivered:
- One-to-one CV clinics
- CV Speed Dating with local recruiters
- Targeted job application support with local agencies
This hands-on approach ensured every participant received personalised guidance suited to their experience and goals.
Real Outcomes, Real Progress
Since completing the course, our learners have achieved fantastic outcomes:
- 4 participants secured employment
- 15 participants moved into regular volunteer roles
- 20 participants received a free laptop, removing a major barrier to job searching
- 29 participants have gained further qualifications in digital skills, teaching and learning or customer service.
These results highlight the impact that digital inclusion combined with employment support can have on people’s confidence, opportunities, and long-term prospects.
What Our Participants Said
Feedback from learners has been overwhelmingly positive. Participants told us they were:
- Impressed by the high level of ongoing support
- Excited to learn how AI tools can enhance job searching
- Grateful for the chance to connect with recruiters and support agencies
- Most of all, they described the course as a huge confidence boost, thanks to learning alongside others in similar situations
Many said that simply feeling supported, capable, and connected made a life-changing difference.

Why Digital Inclusion Matters
Access to technology, digital skills, and online services is no longer optional—it’s essential for employment. By providing both digital tools (like laptops) and practical digital training, our programme ensures participants are not locked out of job opportunities due to lack of access or confidence.
Looking Ahead
Your Starting Point to Employment continues to grow as a powerful pathway into work, volunteering, and further training. We’re incredibly proud of everyone who took part this year and excited to expand our impact even further in 2026.
