Did you know we have been offering our Digiknow Friends training in Stockport for nearly 3 years now? Over that time we have supported 205 people to become a Digital Friend (different from our digital champions) to develop a basic understanding of Digital Inclusion and how being digitally excluded can affect the people of Stockport.
The training only takes 1 hour and is open for anyone in Stockport to attend.
Whether you just want to know a bit more about what support is available for people in Stockport, or you work in frontline services and regularly engage with people that are digitally excluded then this free training is for you!
Why this is important
Did you know across the UK that;
- 8.5 million lack basic digital skills
- 3.7 mill families are below the minimum digital living standard
- On average people with high digital engagement save £900 a year by being able to shop around for things like utilities, insurance, holidays, shopping
These are just some of the reasons that it is so important that we are tackling digital exclusion across Stockport, and its why we created the Digiknow Friends training.
What you will get
The aims of the training are;
• To understand what digital exclusion is including reflecting on your own use of digital.
• To appreciate who may be offline or unable to use digital tools in Stockport – myth buster.
• To have the ability to list DigiKnow activities and signpost people if required.
• To have the confidence to support people in Stockport who are not able to benefit fully from digital.
We will send you out a list of digital inclusion activities taking place across the Digiknow network which acts as a great resource to be able to signpost people to the relevent services they need. This could be access to free mobile data through the databank, low cost devices via Starting Point’s lending library or Community Computers, or digital skills training available from a range of organisations including Starting Point and Age UK.
How Stockport benefits
Digital friends add to our local eco-system of digital inclusion support in Stockport. Working in partnership with Stockport Council, Stockport Homes and Library Service, we are committed to support people to live well online.
In addition, this work alone, when referenced against Good Things Foundation’s research, has generated over £358,750 of social value with the three years it has been happening.
So we now need you to get involved…
