Every learning journey begins with a goal, sometimes a small one, sometimes life-changing. For Kevin, the path he started on our WEA Starting Point to Learning project has become a powerful story of growth, achievement, and new opportunities.

Since completing the programme, Kevin has made remarkable progress. One of his proudest achievements was successfully completing and passing his Microsoft Word Certificate. Throughout his training, he mastered key skills such as formatting documents, using advanced Word functions, creating headers, and exploring design features, tools that will serve him well in both professional and personal settings.

In his end-of-course feedback, Kevin rated himself a perfect 5 on all three of his personal learning goals, confidently stating,

“I know everything and can do it very well. It’s helped me with my confidence.”

Upon completing the course, Kevin received a laptop to support him in taking the next steps in his journey. His reaction said it all:

“I can’t believe I’m being given a laptop. It will help me apply for jobs at home and being able to have MS Office installed I won’t need to go to my local library to fill in forms online.”

This new independence empowered Kevin to put his newly developed digital skills into action. With access to MS Office and a device of his own, he was ready to take on the job market with confidence.

During the project, Kevin also had the chance to meet local recruiters and receive personalised feedback on his CV, an experience that further boosted his confidence. The tips and guidance he received helped him approach job applications with a new sense of clarity and self-belief.

And the results speak for themselves: since completing the course, Kevin has secured several job interviews and has now been offered a position within the adult social care sector.

Kevin’s journey is a powerful example of what can happen when learning, confidence, and the right support come together. Not only has he achieved his original goals, he has exceeded them. His increased confidence, new qualifications, and improved digital skills have opened doors to employment and greater independence.

Kevin has already expressed interest in continuing to learn and develop his skills in the future—and we have no doubt he’ll keep achieving great things.
