Reza was referred to the lending library by Damon, a key worker from Great Manchester Working Well Work & Health Programme. We were able to support Reza and his family with a laptop for school work and job searching. Reza said:
“I appreciate you giving me a call to see how everything is going. I spending time on the laptop looking for jobs and it’s lots easier than trying to do that on my phone.”
Starting Point are proud to have been an Online Centre for 10 years, helping people to get online and stay online. Our informal and friendly sessions have helped people to save money, search for jobs and say in contact with friends and family. In our current, physically distanced world; this work hasn’t stopped.
We have three ways of supporting people to get online in Stockport:
(1) Our fun group Zoom sessions – we host 6 themed weekly session, facilitated by one training officers and supported by lots of other people willing to help you. (2) 121 support from our amazing digital champions – as part of the DigiKnow programme working alongside Stockport Council, Stockport Homes, TPA & Stockport Libraries; we work with 40 trained digital champions who can offer 121 support if you need help with a specific issue. (3) DigiKnow Digital Lending Library – supported by Devices Dot Now, Stockport Council Local Fund and Good Things Foundation with Lloyds bank, we are able to offer a lending scheme of laptops, tablets and SIM cards to support people who aren’t online to realise the benefits and test out cost effective devices.
