Best value internet, social tariffs
To be digitally included you need affordable access to the internet and a reliable device to use. To make this easier, we’ve created two guides
- a guide to social tariffs
- a list of good value devices.
We can’t guarantee that the information in these documents will be the cheapest option for you, it’s always best to do your own research for your circumstances, and how you use the internet or your device. We can’t guarantee the information in this document is up to date, as deals are started and ended on a regular basis. The costs stated were correct from the date stated at the top of this page. However, we hope this will give you a place to start if you are looking at more affordable internet access, or buying a new or refurbished device.
Starting Point take no responsibility for the trustworthiness or reliability of the companies mentioned in these documents, but they are widely used businesses.

Best value internet and social tariffs
We have looked at social tariffs which can be a cheaper cost broadband package for people on certain benefits or a low income
Starting Point have researched the best value broadband deals available at the time we created this document.
You can read our guide HERE
We use three sites for price comparison of internet or phone deals.
- ‘Broadband Genie’ – www.broadbandgenie.co.uk
- ‘You switch’ – www.uswitch.com
- ‘Money supermarket’ – www.moneysupermarket.com
In April 2023, Ofcom reported that only 220,000 (5.1%) of 4.3 million eligible households are taking advantage of social tariffs meaning over 4 million households are missing out on deals that could save them £200 a year.
Broadband providers can confirm which customers are eligible for social tariffs, removing the need for customers to provide their own eligibility.
