Your Starting Point to Employment

What a fantastic final day for our first cohort of learners on the course “Your Starting Point to Employment” funded the WEA / GMCA Community Grants with employment coaching support from Cellnex UK and CDL Software

Our brilliant learners are all active volunteers and bring a wealth of skills and experience to the group. We have covered how to apply all the transferable skills they have gained from volunteering to job applications, using different online job sites to find suitable roles, how to use AI to help tweak their CV’s and covering letters, and setting up and using online profiles such as LinkedIn.

This week, we were joined by visitors from Cellnex and CDL Software who shared their wealth of experience in recruitment during a CV speed dating session.
Learners told us:

“This is really helpful, there’s so many things I’ve heard today I hadn’t even thought about.”

“I’m so happy, this is such an important and useful session, it will help me improve my CV and applications.”

“I’ve had some really good feedback on my CV and got some great tips on how to use AI, really helpful.”

After successfully completing the course, learners each received a laptop with Microsoft Office. We know that editing your CV, writing covering letters and filling out applications is hard on a phone or tablet. We teamed up yet again with the invaluable Community Computers who are a phenomenal resource to Stockport and have been able to purchase laptops for learners. Below is what they told us about why having a device is so important.

“It will help me immensely by helping me to apply for jobs easier than using a mobile device. It will also help me seek more work related opportunities.”

“Having a laptop will enable me to search and apply for jobs in a more simplified way. It will also allow me to put myself on the Grester Manchester Blood Bikes rotation more easily, as it’s easy to make mistakes doing it on a mobile.”

We have loved running this course and can’t wait to get started with the next group (starting in September)… Watch this space!
