We know community organising works. We measure success by the demand for our services. By supporting people to be the solution, we welcomed over 1500 people in 2016, with only 4 members of staff and 32 volunteers.
We have volunteer opportunities for people with a range of skills including supporting people to get online, operating a credit union collection point, befriending, sharing cooking skills and recipes and listening to our community to bring about action. We also work with schools and referral units to offer work experience and employment opportunities in our coffee shop.
For us, community organising is support people to change what is important to them and by bringing people together to create a voice that can be heard. Look at how we supported local people to bring about change on Woodley Precint in December 2015:
