Community Organising

We have over ten years of grassroots community organising experience. We believe that when communities work together, the possibilities for positive change are endless. Community organising is the work of bringing people together to take action around their common concerns and overcome social injustice. Community organisers reach out and listen, connect and motivate people to build their collective power. When people are organised, communities get heard and power begins to shift creating real change for good.

We are a member of The National Academy of Community Organising, providing quality assured training and support for people interested in community organising. Our courses include:

INTRODUCTION TO COMMUNITY ORGANISING & SOCIAL ACTION

This course is a starting for anybody who is interested in community organising. It will help you begin to understand what community organising involves and what it looks like in the real world. You will be introduced to the foundations of community organising: listening, power, and action.

LISTENING SKILLS FOR COMMUNITY ORGANISING

Listening to people is the foundation of community organising because it builds trust and relationships, uncovers issues and is an essential starting point for bringing people together to share stories, ideas and action. On this course, you will gain an understanding of why listening is important in community organising and you will develop practical listening skills and tactics and plan a listening campaign.

BUILDING POWER THROUGH COMMUNITY ORGANISING

On this course you will explore and develop your understanding of power, which is what drives community organising: what power means and how power can be built in community to overcome social injustice and create change.

ACTION FOR CHANGE THROUGH COMMUNITY ORGANISING

This one-day course will explore how you can make change for good through collective action. You will explore the different types of action you can take, from DIY action to campaigning, explore stories of action and success factors and learn how to develop a strategy for change based on listening, building people power and leadership and picking tactics and methods for action.

AWARD IN COMMUNITY ORGANISING

As well as our quality assured courses, we also offer nationally recognised Qualifications such as the Award in Community Organising. This 70 hour taught course provides the opportunity to achieve a Certa Award in Community Organising at Level 2 or Level 3. This course is for people who already have some relevant experience and want to build their knowledge of community organising so that they can be more effective practitioners.
